It's time to make your move. Codegeist, Atlassian's annual developer hackathon, is now live!

With Codegeist, developers have the opportunity to unleash the potential of teams around the world by building Atlassian apps. Designed to recognize greatness of our developer community, Codegeist gives participants a stage to showcase their creativity and skill in extending Atlassian's product portfolio.

From new developers to experts, everyone is welcome to participate from July 12 to September 13 for a chance to win $300k in prizes.

This year, we want to see what you can dream and build with Forge. We're looking for submissions in the following tracks:

  • Apps for DevOps Teams:
Address a need within DevOps teams for better collaboration, automation, and intelligent workflows.
  • Apps for IT:
Address a need within IT service management teams to deliver faster and collaborate effortlessly.
  • Apps for Business Teams:
Address a need to create, collaborate, and organize work across teams in one place.

Why enter?

There are many great reasons to plan your move to enter Codegeist this year. Whether you participate on your own or as part of a team, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your network, improve your skills, and land the cash and swag prizes up for grabs.

Learn and grow with the community

Looking to advance certain skills or connect with other developers? Codegeist participants have access to multiple learning and growth opportunities:

  • Learn from others and share your experience with the Atlassian developer community
  • Lead the way in developing next-generation cloud apps for Atlassian customers
  • Create a new revenue stream after the contest by distributing your Codegeist app via the Atlassian Marketplace

Push the envelope with Forge

This year's Codegeist is all about Forge, Atlassian's platform designed to future-proof how Atlassian cloud products are customized, extended, and integrated. Since we announced general availability in March, and Marketplace distribution for Forge apps in May, we've seen incredibly creative new app ideas come to life.

We want you to help us shape the next chapter of Forge by sharing your building experiences. To prove how serious we are about this, we even have specific prize categories for Forge feedback and stories.

Win prize money and swag

With $300,000 USD in prizes spread across three primary categories, plus bonus categories, swag, and promotion opportunities, there's never been a better time to build your next big app idea.

Sound great? Sign up here. For more details on the "Who?", "What?", and "When", keep reading.

Who should enter?

Teams and individuals familiar with workflow design as well as Jira Software and Confluence should definitely register. There's plenty of room for other areas and levels of expertise as well. Past participants have included everyone from high school to PhD students and Node.js to Full Stack Developers. Even Jira server experts and project managers have joined Codegeist to learn and build new skills.

What should I build?

To get early ideas right away, check out past Codegeist submissions or start to hone in on one of the prize categories. The most successful app developers in the Atlassian Ecosystem typically start with ideas that reflect their own experience and pain points.

For additional advice, here are 7 tips for developing award-winning apps, from developers and Atlassian Marketplace Partners.

Codegeist 2020 winners

Over the years, Codegeist has received a stream of cool app ideas that also listed on the Atlassian Marketplace, including:

ScrumMaister (Built with Forge)

Scrum Maister is an intelligent helper that accelerates agile development through AI-powered issue grooming, sprint analytics and retrospectives.

Congrats to creator Igor Andriushchenko, who recently released Scrum Maister on the Atlassian Marketplace!

Meetical (Built with Connect)

Meetical for Confluence allows teams to enhance meeting planning, documentation, and review, through seamless integration with popular third-party calendars like Google Calendar and Outlook.

Creator Lukas Gotter became an Atlassian Ventures portfolio member for Meetical in late 2020.

Start with a team type

Atlassian's mission is to unleash the potential of every team – and the mission of apps is the same. That's why this year, we're challenging you to create the best app for one of the following team types, which each have their own set of prizes.

Get more details about the three categories – DevOps, IT and Business – plus read up on the entire Codegeist Challenge on our Devpost event page.
