The Evolving Atlassian Ecosystem

As we come to the end of another exciting year, it's a great time to look back and be grateful for our progress – and the achievements of our Marketplace Partners. Our developer community made strides alongside the Atlassian team, leaning into the next generation of the Atlassian platform while surpassing major milestones along the way.

We know we couldn't have done it without you working alongside us. Let's take some time to reflect on all that we have accomplished together. Thank you for being a part of our journey; we're confident next year will be even better!

Atlassian Developers in 2021 by the Numbers

Announced our Partner of the Year Awards

In the first half of the year, the developer community celebrated the winners of the 2020 Partners of the Year Awards. We gave well-deserved props to an elite set of Solution Partners and Marketplace Partners who went above and beyond in 2020, across a wide range of categories. This year had lots of standouts and we know it will be even harder to pick the winning Atlassian Partners for next year. Congratulations!

Hosted Developer Day

In lieu of our annual in-person event, Developer Day went virtual in 2021. The developer community connected online, spending the day learning about the future of the Atlassian platform, meeting Atlassian experts, and asking the Forge team questions through a live Q&A session.

Many sessions touched on the important theme of security, and we updated attendees about the features and app badging available with Forge to help build trust across users, customers, and vendors. While we would have wished to see everyone in person, the health and safety of our community remains our highest priority. We're hoping for the chance to see everyone in person soon.

Did you miss out on Developer Day this year? Watch the recorded sessions to get caught up.

Brought the community together with developer meetups

In addition to Developer Day, we hosted an event for our community every month in 2021. From Office Hours to Lean Coffees, these events connected Atlassians to the developer community and created environments where new ideas and learning could thrive.

We hosted 14 of these events in total and we're excited to continue them in 2022. If you have any ideas for speakers or topics, let us know in the community and tag our Developer Advocate, Bentley Cook.

Released Forge, our cloud development platform, to a wider audience

This spring, we announced the general availability of our next-generation cloud app development platform, Forge. Developers saw demos of new platform capabilities, heard learnings from beta users' feedback, and previewed plans for future enhancements.

Since we added the ability to distribute Forge apps, we've seen over 130 Forge apps published on the Atlassian Marketplace, a testament to the enthusiasm and creativity of our developer and partner community.

But we still have big plans ahead to ensure Forge can meet more developer needs and use cases. That's why we began our quarterly Forge Roadmap Webinar series to maintain an open line of communication with the developer community. In these live presentations, you can learn about upcoming Forge features, hear from Atlassian product leaders, ask questions, and get a sneak peek into what we have in store for Forge.

If you missed the November webinar and want to watch it for yourself, you can find the full video here.

We hope you will weigh in to help us continuously improve Forge. You can give us your feedback at any time by adding requests to our public Forge Jira instance or by  joining the conversation in the Developer Community.

Sparked competition (and fun!) with Codegeist

The annual Codegeist hackathon that kicked off in July was a huge success. It brought teams together to build something they're passionate about, all while practicing new skills using Forge and winning substantial cash prizes. The feedback and stories we heard from our community are continuing to fuel our work heading into the new year.

Be sure to check out which apps from Codegeist made it to the Marketplace and which ones our customers voted on as their favorites. We're already looking forward to next year!

Launched the Cloud Fortified Apps Program

In July, we launched the new Cloud Fortified apps program. This program is designed to help enterprise customers identify apps that go above and beyond in three areas: security, reliability, and support. Partners who participate get enhanced Marketplace visibility and distribution opportunity with Atlassian cloud customers.

Celebrated Atlassian Ventures' One Year Anniversary

September 2021 marked the 1-year anniversary of the Atlassian Ventures program, our way of directly investing in the Atlassian Ecosystem. In 2021, we distributed $14M to investees, who have used these funds to expand operations, hire new talent, and bring innovative new products to market. We have no expectation of slowing down; In 2022, we plan to invest even more.

Ended the year with a bang

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of 1,250+ Marketplace Partners, this year gave all of us reason to celebrate. We ended on a high note by surpassing $2B in lifetime Marketplace sales – only two years after hitting $1B in sales. This is a testament to the strength of our Marketplace Partners and the demand for apps amongst Atlassian customers.

Cheers to all that we accomplished together this year. We'll see you in 2022!
